.... and here I was speeding away from all of that -- all I had believed in and worked so hard for and related to.
And I was struck by the stars - the desert stars are always so magnificent! - that I stopped to stand amidst them for a while.
My soul absorbed the vast quietness of a trillion memories and I was simultaneously intoxicated with the contrary concepts of euphoria and despair -
the final culmination of dreams and anxieties - a glimpse of Eternity and the Oneness of all that is good.
And in the deep of that sparkling black sky the cry of mankind resounded - how readily we confine our concept of what we can become - how subtly we are taught to squeeze our self-portraits into a particular little frame of conciousness.
And how hard it is to get out - To change the picture..!
At any rate, I made it to Deming, New Mexico that night. |
